Welcoming back ACE Friends from Bay View Middle School

Hills & Dales was thrilled to welcome back our friends from the Active Citizen Experience (ACE) program at Bay View Middle School in Green Bay for their fourth visit since 2019! Each time they return, they bring energy, kindness, and a genuine desire to connect—and this January visit was no exception.

Over four days, 11 middle school students and four adult leaders volunteered their time across several Hills & Dales programs, creating meaningful moments and lasting memories with the children and adults we serve.

Their visit began on Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a day spent at the Residential Center, honoring the spirit of service that defines the holiday. Students connected with both children and adults, sharing conversations, laughter, and simple moments of togetherness that mean so much to our residents.

Another highlight was bowling at Round 2 in Peosta with Supported Community Living clients. Strikes, spares, high-fives, and plenty of smiles filled the lanes as friendships formed over friendly competition and lots of encouragement.

The ACE group also brought creativity and fun to our Childcare programs, designing and leading engaging activities for children, including those enrolled in Childcare Medical Services. Their thoughtful preparation and enthusiasm helped ensure that every child could participate and enjoy the experience.

Time spent with Day Habilitation clients was filled with crafts, karaoke, and laughter—and even extended beyond our walls. Some students volunteered alongside Day Habilitation clients at the River Museum, sharing a unique opportunity to serve together in the community.

During their stay, the group was graciously hosted by the Sisters at Mount St. Francis. In addition to enjoying their hospitality, the students took time to visit with the Sisters, adding another meaningful layer of connection to their trip.

The week wrapped up with activities alongside Autism Services clients, ending the visit on a joyful and engaging note that reflected the care and effort the students brought to every program they touched.

We are incredibly grateful to the ACE students and adult leaders for their continued efforts to build meaningful lives at Hills & Dales. Their return visits over the years speak volumes about the relationships we've built and the impact of service learning. We look forward to welcoming them back again—and until then, we’ll be smiling about the many moments they shared with our community.

Be sure to check out lots of photos from their visit on our Facebook page!
