Hills & Dales Seeks Support for Autism home pilot program

(December 5, 2011– Dubuque, Iowa) The Hills & Dales 2012 Annual Appeal was recently launched to gather contributions to help improve the lives of young adults with Autism and their families who are supported by Hills & Dales.

Hills & Dales has been in the process of developing the appropriate supports and services for this PILOT PROGRAM which includes achieving support from DHS in creating this opportunity for individuals to come back home and to live close to their families in their community.

A significant need has been identified by many families and providers who have asked Hills & Dales to develop a program for young adults with Autism, and who also have other significant challenges and intellectual disabilities.  Many of these families have had to make the agonizing decision to place their child in an out of state institution because there is not a community option for them to remain close and near their loved ones.

This program model will be expanded over time to support many families and will have a wide reaching effect on lives of all persons with Autism; and currently there are several youth who live at the Hills & Dales Residential Center who over time will be ‘perfect candidates’ for this program as well.  Various programs are designed to support children who have Autism, however these children are now becoming adults.  Autism seems to have touched so many families with its unknown origin, and we feel it must be our charge to assure that there are programs and services available for persons to receive an opportunity for a meaningful life.

You can be a part of building meaningful lives by supporting the Hills & Dales Annual Appeal, with all gifts no matter the size sincerely appreciated.  To make a charitable tax deductible donation, call Jen at 563-556-7878 or make a secure donation on this website under the donate section.

DRA GRANT AWARD SUPPORTS HILLS & DALES AUSTIM PILOT HOME

(Dubuque, IA – November 1, 2011)  A recent grant award in the amount of $20,000 from the Dubuque Racing Association will assist Hills & Dales in funding an Autism Pilot Home.  The main goal of this program is to develop a pilot program/community home model specific for young adults with Autism and other related behaviors. No other provider is currently offering a specific program to support adults with Autism and Hills & Dales will be the lead agency to develop this new program offering and to bring or keep people in their community and close to their families.

The adult individuals who will benefit from this project call Dubuque County or a contiguous county home (some are living out of state due to the lack of services in Iowa).  These persons have Autism, a diagnosed intellectual disability, and present some difficult challenges and behaviors.  Through the proper curriculum, staff support, and crisis response systems development, Hills & Dales will establish a model of program support for these individuals to have a meaningful life in their community.

Hills & Dales is appreciative of the support the DRA has provided to assist in the mission to build meaningful lives for individuals with disabilities by offering services that support the whole person and enhance community inclusion.  Hills & Dales, a not-for profit organization, has been providing supports and services to individuals with disabilities in Dubuque and Northeast Iowa since 1973.  For additional information, contact Marilyn Althoff at 563-556-7878.

Endow Iowa Tax Credit Information

On May 13, Governor Branstad signed SF 302 into law.  This measure increases funding for the Endow Iowa tax credit program by $800,000 annually to a total of $4,500,000 for the 2011 tax year.

By taking advantage of this tax credit, you can receive a state income tax credit of 25% of the donation, up to $100,000 annually.  This means that a couple in the 35% tax bracket can reduce the net cost of a $10,000 donation to $4,000 by combining federal deductions with the Endow Iowa credit.

Unlike annual gifts, the principle of an endowed gift is never spent; this means the recipient of your endowment can use the 5% annual interest earned to permanently eliminate an expese.

Visit www.dbqfoundation.org or call the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque at 563-588-2700 to find out more about the Endow Iowa tax credit.
